About South Birmingham Sinfonia

SBS is a thriving non-professional orchestra with over 65 members, performing a wide range of music including major symphonic works and concertos with professional soloists.

Concert series are presented twice yearly, for which the orchestra rehearses on Monday evenings during term-time. Playing to an extremely high standard, SBS is a non-professional ensemble that has flourished in recent years, expanding its musical horizons and playing increasingly exciting and challenging repertoire.

Recent programmes have included Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony, Vaughan Williams’ dramatic ballet score Job, Bruckner’s Sixth and Ninth Symphonies, as well as concertos by Sibelius, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, in collaboration with distinguished international soloists Michael Bochmann and Philip Fowke.

The orchestra is currently looking to present symphonies by Schumann, Dvořák and Brahms in future concert series.

South Birmingham Sinfonia is honoured to have distinguished international violinist Michael Bochmann as its Honorary Patron.
